We drove to the northern Oregon Coast crossing over the Columbia River. Our motel in Seaside, OR was located on the beach with a great view. It was a short ride to the famous Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach. It was low tide which allowed us to explore the Haystack Rock tide pools which are home to many intertidal animals, including starfish, sea anemone, crabs, chitons, limpets, and sea slugs.
It was getting late when we drove back to our hotel. As soon as we entered the highway, we spotted a couple of local elk grazing along the road. We enjoyed the beautiful sunset while eating dinner in our room.
The Tillamook Cheese Factory is a must see stop while driving down the Oregon Coast. There is a self guided tour of the cheese making process, cheese tasting, an ice cream store, and of course a gift shop with many different types of cheeses for sale.
